Budget preparatory work begins in Goa

Goa has started preparatory work for the upcoming budget even as the new government is expected to be sworn-in by the second week of March after the counting of votes for the recently held Assembly election takes place.
"The budget is an accounting exercise. The preparatory work has been started by all the departments. Once the new government is sworn-in, their priorities will be reflected in the budget," Amey Abhyankar, special secretary (Budget), Government of Goa, told PTI today.
The elections to the 40-member House were held on February 4 and the counting will take place on March 11, following which the new government would be sworn in.

"The administrative and preparatory steps which are required for drafting of the budget are being taken right now," he said, adding, that all the Heads of Department have been asked to submit their accountings to the State Finance Department.
The last budgetof Rs 14,694 crore was presented by Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar on March 16, 2016 which had a plan outlay of Rs 4008.05 crore.
Parsekar in his interview to PTI recently had said that it would not be difficult to table the Budget before March 31 as the respective departments are already working on it.
"Though there is restriction on the government, the administration has continued its work. It won't be a big challenge to place the budget before March 31. The new CM gets 15 days before it," he had said.
