Budget session: No time for Opp to corner AAP govt, says Gupta

Hitting out at the Delhi government's decision to hold Budget session without the "statutory notice" of 14 days, Leader of Opposition Vijender Gupta has said the Opposition will be deprived of valuable time to question the government on various issues.
The AAP government had on Saturday announced to call a five-day Budget session of the Delhi Assembly, starting from March 6 during which it is expected to provide sufficient funds to education and health sectors.
Gupta alleged that calling the session at such a "short" notice deprived the Opposition the opportunity of raising questions about the functioning of the government and highlighting public grievances in the Assembly.

"Since the required period of 14 days for calling the session has not been followed, it has made dysfunctional the Rule 33 and Rule 89, which required a minimum notice period of 12 days to raise starred and unstarred questions as well as move the Private Member Resolution," he said.
The Delhi Assembly, dominated by AAP legislators, has a minuscule presence of Opposition in the form of Gupta and his two colleagues from BJP, namely O P Sharma and Jagdish Pradhan.
