A senior police officer said the builder Goutam Basak (53) admitted to the cops at hospital that he was carrying the bomb which accidentally fell down and went off as he was crossing the Ultadanga Main Road and Canal East Road on bike, way back home at around 11:30 pm yesterday.
Basak had earlier claimed in his complaint lodged with Maniktala Police Station that unknown armed miscreants chased the two-wheeler he was riding for several hundred metres before hurling bombs at him following which he fell down from his bike and was badly injured, late last night.
Once Basak was released from hospital he would be arrested, the officer said adding Basak's companion, who was pillion riding, will also be questioned.
"We are also inquiring what prompted the promoter to carry the bomb," he said.
