Building collapse case: Discharge pleas of 6 accused rejected

A local court today rejected the discharge applications filed by six accused arrested in the 2013 building collapse case, which had left 74 people dead, in the district.
Special Judge V V Bambarde, after hearing the arguments of the prosecution and the defence decided that the six applicants do not deserve to be discharged from the case.
As many as 27 people, including senior civic officials, corporator, middlemen, builders, contractors, policemen, etc were arrested in the case.
The six accused, including NCP corporator of Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) Hira Patil, retired TMC Deputy Municipal Commissioner Srikant Sarmokdam and suspended Assistant Municipal Commissioner Shyam Thorbole, have been charged under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Prevention of Corruption Act.

The under-construction Lucky Compound building located in Mumbra near Shil Phata in the district, collapsed in April, 2013, leaving 74 people dead and 60 others injured.
