A prosecution witness in the 2013 Shil-Daighar building collapse today told a local court that civic officials had turned a blind eye towards rampant illegal constructions in the Lucky Compound premises.
Seventy four people were killed and over 60 injured in the Shil-Daighar building collapse in April, 2013.
The witness Santosh Bhoir, a police patil (person who assists police) of Shil today deposed before District Judge V V Bambarde, who is hearing the case.
Bhoir told the court that he had complained to senior officials of the Thane Municipal Corporation in writing about the illegal constructions at least on two occasions i.e. on February 7 and February 18, 2013.
He said the officials were well aware that the structure would collapse due to such speedy inferior constructions, but they turned a blind eye.
Earlier, chief witness Mangal Patil and another witness Sharad Patil had also said that the civic officials did not pay heed to the unauthorised constructions.
Altogether, 27 persons are being tried in the case and the next hearing is slated for February 6.
