The 20-km-long Vikaspuri-Wazirabad elevated corridor will be completed by next month with the fourth part of the project -- the Burari flyover -- being thrown open to traffic today.
PWD Minister Satyendar Jain, while dedicating the 700m- long flyover on Outer Ring Road to the people, said that two parts of the elevated project are yet to be opened and would be completed by March.
"There were some hurdles in completing the two remaining parts, but all problems have been sorted and the two remaining parts will be completed by March," Jain said.
A network of several flyovers and elevated roads between Vikaspuri and Wazirabad on the Outer Ring Road will help decongest traffic and result in commuters saving on fuel and time. Around 1.80 lakh vehicles use this stretch daily.
"The six-lane flyover at Burari intersection was built at a cost of Rs 42 crore against its sanctioned budget of Rs 57 crore. PWD has thus saved Rs 15 crore in the construction of this flyover," said a senior government official.
The official claimed that at least five minutes will be saved in taking this stretch following the construction of the Burari flyover.
"There will be saving of time and fuel and lesser CO2 emissions.
"The saving will be equivalent to approximately Rs 76 crore per year. Therefore, the cost of the project (Rs 42 crore) will be recovered in just seven months," the official said.
