A 35-year-old bus driver suffered severe injuries after he was allegedly thrashed and attacked with a knife by a group of men when he did not let a bike-borne duo overtake his vehicle on a busy road near southeast Delhi's Jamia Nagar today.
The driver, identified as Mohammed Amir, was driving a cluster bus heading towards New Delhi when the incident took place. He suffered from several wounds, including two deep cuts on his lower back and shoulder, and is presently admitted at AIIMS Trauma Centre, police said.
Passengers in the bus told police that a bike-borne duo following the bus was honking continuously but the driver could not let them overtake as the road was too crowded.
Finally, when they managed to overtake the bus near Jamia Nagar, they stopped the vehicle and entered into a heated argument with the driver, they said.
Soon, the duo summoned around eight to 10 more men and the group allegedly thrashed the driver. Suddenly, one of then pulled out a knife and allegedly attacked the victim, causing deep gashes on his shoulder and lower back. They fled from the spot after the incident, police said.
One of the passengers called up the police and the driver was rushed to the hospital. Later, a case was registered under relevant sections of IPC.
Some of the accused have been identified and a manhunt has been launched to nab them as early as possible, they added.
