Passengers of a private bus travelling from Noida to Agra were robbed of their cash and jewellery on the Yamuna Expressway, the police said today.
The robbery took place last night after three armed men boarded the bus as it left for Agra with its passengers, SP (Rural) Aditya Kumar Shukla said.
"A hunt for the culprits is on. Nearly Rs 15,000 was looted," Shukla said. He said the pistol-wielding miscreants boarded the bus near the town of Surir, in the district of Mathura, and deboarded with the loot within 15 minutes.
One of the youths held the driver at gunpoint while the others ordered the passengers to remain seated, the police report said.
According to the conductor Sudheer, a few passengers were assaulted as they attempted to resist. "I could save Rs 4,500 as I hid my bag under a seat," Sudheer said.
An FIR has been registered.
