In a people-friendly measure ahead of the coming assembly polls, Kerala government today reduced by one rupee the bus fare of ordinary services in Kerala State Road Transport Corporation.
Addressing a press conference after a cabinet meeting here, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy said with the decision, minimum charge in ordinary bus services would come down to Rs 6 and there would be reduction by Re 1 in all other ticket fares.
The decision was taken with a view to passing on the benefits to people with the fall in petrol and diesel prices, he said.
The cabinet also decided to assign two acres of land to noted musician Ustad Amjad Ali Khan at Kadakampally village in Thiruvananthapuram district for setting up an International Music Academy.
The cabinet also accorded sanction for the creation of 2653 posts in 235 higher secondary schools which were given recognition in 2014-15 and 2015-16, he said.
The posts include that of higher secondary school teachers and junior teachers.
