routes, plying in Durgapur and surroundding areas of Burdwan district, gave an indefinite strike call from today.
Official reports said the strike call was given in protest against the jail custody given to a bus driver in connection with a road mishap death recently.
About 350 bus employees maintained poor road condition, congestion, poor traffic signalling system and flouting of road rules by three wheelers were making it difficult for the heavy vehicles to ply along the routes and demanded the issues be addressed immediately.
Hundreds of commuters had a harrowing time as no buses plied since the morning in the township and the private car operators, three wheelers and taxis hiked their fares.
