Over two dozen people were injured today when a bus collided head-on with a tipper truck in Nepal, a day after 31 people were killed as an overcrowded bus plunged into a river in the Himalayan nation.
According to the police, the bus collided head-on with the tipper in Bharatpur in Chitwan district, 250 kms south of Kathmandu, this morning. Following the collision, both vehicles veered off the road into a nearby jungle area.
Among 26 people who sustained injuries in the accident, seven are in critical condition, police said.
Superintendent of Police Deepak Thapa at the Chitwan police office said, "All injured including the bus driver are undergoing treatment at the Chitwan Medical College, Bharatpur Hospital and Bharatpur College of Medical Sciences".
"The tipper driver, however, is at large and police are searching for him," he said.
Yesterday, an overcrowded passenger bus veered off a road and plunged into a river in central Nepal's Dhading district, killing 31 people, including an Indian woman.
