A bench of justices Pradeep Nandrajog and Manmohan Singh ordered restoration of plying of buses on lanes reserved for them, revoking its earlier interim order of May 30 and July 5 as per which the bus lanes had been opened to all vehciles.
"We direct that till the writ petition is decided, the traffic flow would revert to its movement / flow as per the BRT Corridor Traffic Flow System, meaning thereby, the traffic which was flowing before its flow was altered under interim orders passed and to give effect to the same i.E. Restoring status quo ante," the bench said.
The bench passed the order after the counsel for parties agreed that the existing system of all motorised vehicles plying on bus lanes needs to be changed as after opening the reserved bus lanes to all vehicles, the traffic situation on the BRT corridor has only worsened.
The bench, during its proceedings yesterday, had observed that the BRT cooridor project was after all "not a bad one" and had indicated that it should be adopted after removing its lacunae.
The bench directed the Delhi Transport Department to implement its order from September 15.
The bench also recorded the assurance given by the Delhi government counsel KTS Tulsi and said "necessary signage(s) would be put in place and wide publicity would be given for the revised traffic flow management and the traffic marshals would be brought back as also adequate number of traffic policemen would be stationed, at least for the first few days, lest chaos reigns in the BRT corridor."
