Buses used by many private schools are not in a good condition and reports from sub divisional magistrates across Himachal Pradesh have been sought in this regard, Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur said today.
At least 27, including 23 children, were killed at Malkwal in Kangra district of HP when a school bus fell into 100-meter deep gorge on April 10.
Asked by reporters here about what his government was doing to prevent fatal accidents, Thakur said a campaign to check fitness of vehicles had been launched.
He further pointed out that the buses being used by many private schools were found to be not in good condition.
"SDMs have been directed to submit a report soon in this regard," he said adding that the private schools had also been asked to follow the Supreme Court guidelines on transportation of students.
Efforts are also being made to widen roads and remove accident-prone spots in the state, Thakur said.
