Businessman arrested on charge of raping woman in confinement

A businessman has been arrested on charge of raping a young woman and beating up her young sister who had shifted from Bangladesh to Nadia three years back, a senior police officer said today.
The accused Sanjib Kumar Biswas, who was arrested from Dumdum near Kolkata yesterday, was named by the 23-year old and her family as having repeatedly raping her in confinement at his Mayapur home in Nadia district for past three years, the officer said.
Biswas, who holds a Bangladeshi Passport, had been in US in past and was now involved in building construction in Nadia for past couple of years.
He was named in FIR as raping the woman and physically assaulting her 13-year old sister for last 3 years, the officer said.
He was produced in Chief Judicial Magistrate's Court, Krishnanagar, today and remanded to 14 days' Judicial custody on charges of raping, sexual assault and cheating.
The two females had been staying with Biswas as requested by their family in Bangladesh to help them find jobs in Nabadwip-Mayapur areas since he had busines connections and even had taken Rs 20 lakh from their parents as expenses for their living three years back, the complainants said.

Their maternal uncle and his wife lived at another place in North 24 Parganas district but the girls stayed with him in good faith, the girls' family said.
The complaints were lodged on October 27 last year after the girls' parents started to stay with them and the two mustered the courage to inform the elders.
As the two and their family lodged FIR at Nabadwip police station alleging rape, sexual torture and cheating (wanting their money back) on that very day, the accused went missing and was finally tracked from another flat in Dumdum area yesterday.
The accused has also a grocery shop in Mayapur Gouribari.
The girls also named the wife of the accused and two other family members in their complaints and they have taken anticipatory bails, the officer said.
