Businessman, friend arrested for allegedly murdering wife

Cyberabad police today arrested a businessman and his friend for allegedly murdering the former's wife on April 19 in the Ramanthapur area here.
The accused Sachin Uppal and his friend Kotagiri Rakesh Kumar were allegedly responsible for the murder of 29-year-old Reetu Uppal alias Reetu Sareen, who worked as an air hostess earlier. Both have been arrested, Assistant Commissioner of Police (Malkajgiri Division) M Ravichandan Reddy said.
Reetu, who is a native of Jamshedpur in Jharkhand, was married to Sachin in 2013 and her parents gave the accused a Rs 16 lakh dowry as per his demand, the ACP said.

However, after marriage Sachin allegedly harassed her physically as well as mentally for an additional dowry of Rs 10 lakh to meet his business expenses, the ACP said.
On the instigation of his parents and his younger brother, who are absconding, he assaulted her. Sachin also suspected her "character" and stopped her from working, Reddy said.
On the night of April 19, Sachin and his friend Rakesh Kumar, consumed liquor and entered into a quarrel with his wife, Reddy said.

"Sachin and Reetu had an altercation over some family issue and during the argument, Sachin hit his wife, resulting in an injury to her tumor, after which she went to the bedroom saying that she will inform her parents," the ACP said.

Later, Sachin started to beat up her in the bedroom and throttled her with a pillow, the ACP said, his friend, Rakesh Kumar, was in the hall watching television.
Reetu was rushed to a nearby hospital by her parents, where doctors declared her brought dead.
Efforts are on to nab three other family members, the ACP said.
