Businessman, set afire by pro-ILP activists, dies

A businessman, who was set afire allegedly by the activists demanding Inner Line Permit (ILP) two weeks ago, succumbed to his injuries early today at a hospital in New Delhi, officials said.
Vikash Nandwal (34), who owned a shop at the busy Motphran junction in the city, died at in a private hospital in Delhi, East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner Sanjay Goyal told PTI.
The non-tribal businessman was set afire in broad daylight on October 9, when he was attending to customers, by suspected activists demanding ILP in Meghalaya.
KSU members Wankerlang Jyrwa and Badonkupar Nongbri hailing from Lower Mawprem locality in the city were arrested in this connection, East Khasi Hills district SP M Kharkrang said.
Nandwal was admitted to Nazareth Hospital from where he was referred to Nemcare Hospital in Guwahati on the same day.
As his conditions deteriorated at Nemcare, Nandwal was air lifted and admitted at the Max Hospital in Delhi where he succumbed to his injuries today, family sources said.
While his mortal remains will be cremated at his parental birthplace, Hissar, in Haryana, the state government has announced that all expenses will be borne by the state for his medical care.
A candle light vigil will also be observed later today at Khyndailad junction in the city to mourn his death.
