The police said Srinibas Rout, a local businessman, was shot at around 9.30 pm yesterday when he was in his stationery shop.
Two persons came in a motorcycle and fired at Rout from close range and fled from the spot, the police said.
Rout is undergoing treatment at SCB Medical College and Hospital here in a critical condition as he received bullet injuries in the chest.
The police are yet to ascertain the motive behind the attack.
