Businessman shot dead, brother injured

The miscreants looted rupees two lakh from the 42-year old hardware businessman, Mrinalkanti Upadhay and his brother, Champak.

According to police the Upadhay brothers and an employee of their shop had left home in the early hours today to catch a local train. They were on a motorbike.

The miscreants stopped them and threatened them at gun point to handover the cash. When the brothers did not do so, they started firing.

The elder brother received bullet-shots and the younger brother too received bullet injury in his stomach and other parts. The elder brother died on the spot.

Birbhum superintendent of police Lakshminarayan Meena reached the spot with senior officers and all the police stations were alerted.

Three persons were arrested from a village, few kilometers away from the spot, he said.

Basab Talukdar, DIG [ Burdwan range] who also reached Dubrajpur said, "The miscreants looted the booty at gunpoint and shot at the victims. Three persons have been arrested, two fire arms and several rounds of ammunition have been recovered from them . Prima facie some clues have been found that indicated the involvement of these three.
