Businessmen, temples, cinema halls asked to install CCTVs

For better surveillance, the Ganjam Chamber of Commerce (GCC), Berhampur Jewellery Associations (BJA) and temple trustees have been asked by the police to install CCTVs.
"We will soon review steps taken to strengthen the surveillance," Berhampur SP Anirudh Singh said.
The police, he said, would also request businessmen in crowded places like cinema halls and shopping malls to install CCTV in public places.
There was no need to take permission from the police for installing them, he said.
Meanwhile, a local youth organisation has installed at least two closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras in public places.
"We have been installed two cameras in the street now. Process is also on to install six more such cameras for better surveillance in Kalu Patra Street," Ranjit Pashupalak, secretary, Jwalamukhi Youth Organisation, said.

The organisation decided to install the cameras following incidents of snatching and looting increased in the area.

"Our aim is to help the police in case of any eventuality," Pasupalak said.
The CCTV cameras were installed from the funds of the organization and around Rs 2 lakh was spent for the purpose.
The 300-meter long Kalu Patra Street under the limit of Bada Bazara police station has around 200 households, mostly of businessmen.
Lauding their initiative, the police said, "We welcome organizations that are installing such cameras in their localities.
