Arunachal Pradesh Home Minister Tanga Byaling has written to all the ministers and MLAs of the state seeking their cooperation with police personnel to have their vehicles checked.
Byaling sought their cooperation in light of the direction to the police to check "all vehicles, irrespective of the class or position" as part of the government's effort to curb crimes and movement of antisocial elements in the capital.
"While crimes including extortion and intimidation are on the rise in the capital city and its adjoining areas, it has been reported that some underground elements and miscreants have taken to using vehicles with red lights and even pilot and escort teams in police uniform to cross security check gates," Byaling said in a letter here today.
"Police is sometimes confused over such situations, therefore we need to strictly check the use of vehicles with red lights used by unauthorised persons," Byaling said in the letter, a copy of which was made available to the press.
The minister revealed that night movement of armed antisocial elements in the capital has also been reported.
"The City SP has been directed to ensure checking of vehicles without discrimination, and cooperation and support from each and every citizen is very necessary to help the security personnel perform their duties," he said.
