The Opposition Congress sought a debate on the admissibility of an adjournment motion on the demands of thousands of contractual teachers, who were indefinitely striking work since December 3, demanding their merger in the regular posts of the state government education cadre.
It forced adjournment of the House for three times before it was adjourned for the day.
Taking up the issue after the Question hour, Congress member Tamradhwaj Sahu said the government was not concerned about the contractual teachers, who have been staging demonstration since a long time.
Most of the schools were closed in the state, thereby affecting the studies of students due to strike.
He later demanded a debate on the admissibility of an adjournment motion on the issue.
Voicing concern over the same, another Congress member Dharamjeet said Chief Minister Raman Singh had announced in the election manifesto to merge contractual teachers in regular posts, but so far it was not done.

Supporting him, former Chief Minister Ajit Jogi said around 1.80 lakh contractual teachers were striking work in support of their various demands but instead of considering it the government was putting pressure on them to roll back their agitation.
As Speaker Dharamlal Kaushik rejected plea for adjournment motion, the agitated members shouted slogans against the government following which the House was adjourned for 10 minutes. MORE
