Congress Chief Nand Kumar Patel raised the issue and asked for the statistics of the missing girls, especially those from the northern region of the state, including Raigarh, Jashpur and Ambikapur districts.

Home Minister Nanki Ram Kanwar replied saying complaints about 276 missing girls were registered in Raigarh in the past two years, while 107 and 198 in Jashpur and Ambikapur respectively.

Kanwar claimed that 459, out of the total 581 missing girls from these three districts, have been traced while the rest of 123 girls were still missing.

Kanwar added that action had been taken against 20 placement agencies and 31 persons in the cases related to human trafficking in these three districts since 2010.

However, "dissatisfied" over the reply, Patel claimed that even though over 9,000 girls had gone missing from the state, the government did not have the exact figure.

He further said that it had also not clarified the action taken against the placement agencies, following which the Opposition trooped out of the House.
