The Chhattisgarh Pradesh Congress Committee (CGPCC) will stage a 'dharna' (sit-in) in New Delhi on August 9 to protest against the early winding up of the monsoon session of the state Assembly.
The monsoon session of the Chhattisgarh assembly which started on August 1 was scheduled to conclude on August 11 with eight sittings but it was adjourned sine die on August 3.
"The Raman Singh government abruptly concluded the monsoon session fearing discussion on charges of corruption against the chief minister and his cabinet colleagues in the House," state Congress chief Bhupesh Baghel said.
To protest this "unparliamentary conduct", the party will stage a sit-in protest at Jantar Mantar in the national capital on August Kranti Diwas (August 9) under the banner of 'Save Democracy', he said.
Congress members in the Assembly had planned to raise Panama paper leak issue and charges of corruption on state ministers and that was why the treasury bench got the House adjourned on just third day, Baghel said.
He added "Now all these issues will be highlighted during the protest in Delhi. The party leaders are also trying to secure permission to meet President Ramnath Kovind on August 10 to raise the issue before him."

"We will urge the President to take a strong action against the ruling BJP in the state," said Baghel.
Last year, the Congress had alleged that CM Raman Singh's son Abhishek held offshore assets as per the Panama papers leak.
Both the chief minister and his son, a Lok Sabha MP from Rajnandgaon, had rubbished the allegations.
