The skirmish took place in forests between Mudvendi and Karka villages under Gangaloor police station limits when a team of DRGwas out on a search operation, Deputy Inspector General of Police (south Bastar range) Sundarraj P told PTI.
The patrolling team came under heavy firing from ultras between Mudvendi and Karka, around 450 kms away from here, that led to exchange of fire.
Security forces retaliated strongly following which naxalites fled from the spot, he said.
After receiving information about the encounter, reinforcement was rushed to the place and the injured jawan was shifted to district hospital where his condition was said to be normal, he said.
