C'garh govt orders activation of banking correspondents

The Chhattisgarh government has directed administrative and bank officials to fully activate "bank mitra" (banking correspondents) to speed up the seeding works of all Jan Dhan bank accounts with Aadhaar number following the Centre's demonetisation policy.
"Chief Secretary Vivek Dhand, in a circular issued yesterday, asked all the divisional commissioners, collectors, senior bank officials and state-level bankers' committee co-coordinators to update and alert the 'bank mitra' in their respective areas regarding the demonetisation policy to check flow of black money in the Prime Minister Jan-Dhan bank accounts," a government official said here today.
If there are no bank mitras in certain regions, they will soon be appointed, he said.
About 1,17,35,531 Jan Dhan bank accounts were opened in 27 districts of the state tillOctober 19. A total of 39,80,619 Jan Dhan accounts have 'zero' bank balance, the official said.
The chief secretary has also asked the top officials to complete seeding of Aadhaar and mobile numbers, and distribution of Rupay cards and their activation as early as possible, he added.
Besides, the officials have been asked to submit their first progress report in this direction by November 28 and subsequently, on every Monday the progress report have to be sent to the Directorate of Institutional Finance of the state government through e-mail, he said.
The banks have also been advised to contact district Collectors for recruitment of banking correspondents.
