"Expansion of the cabinet is the chief minister's prerogative. And the wisdom with which he has chosen new faces for his cabinet shows his political maturity. In the present political circumstances there could not have been a better decision," Pradesh Congress President Kishore Upadhyay said in a statement here.
Uapadhyay was in favour of early expansion of the state cabinet in view of the proximity of the state assembly elections due early next year.
Rawat expanded his Cabinet earlier today inducting two ministers from Garhwal, a move being viewed as an attempt to satisfy leaders from the region, who had often complained of neglect.
Both Prabhat and Bhandari are legislators from Garhwal region representing Vikasnagar and Badrinath constituencies respectively in the state Assembly.
