The government today decided to transfer 0.5 acre of land belonging to the Central Rice Research Institute (CRRI) for setting up of a new police station at Cuttack, Odisha.
A decision in this regard was taken in the meeting of the Cabinet, headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, here.
"The Union Cabinet gave its approval for the proposal of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) to transfer 0.5 acre of land belonging to the CRRI Cuttack to the Police Department, Government of Odisha," an official statement said.
The proposed land will be transferred on a lease basis for a period of 33 years for establishment of a police station adjacent to the CRRI campus, it said.
The new police station will be accessible from the Cuttack-Paradeep road and would strengthen the security of the institute and its employees, it added.
A police outpost has been functioning inside the campus of the CRRI since 1982. The Odisha government has notified upgradation of this police outpost to that of a police station.
