The Cabinet is likely to take a call tomorrow on a new productivity-linked reward scheme for major port and dock employees for the period 2015-16 to 2017-18.
The Cabinet will tomorrow consider the proposal of Shipping Ministry with regard to "formulation of new productivity-linked reward (PLR) scheme for major port and dock employees for payment of PLR for 2015-16 to 17-18," a source said.
The expenditure on account of PLR will be borne by the major port trusts and dock labour boards from their own resources without any budgetary support from the government, the source added.
Last year, the government had given nod for extension of a scheme for payment of productivity-linked reward to port and dock employees from 2014-15 to 2015-16.
There are 12 major ports in the country - Kandla, Mumbai, JNPT, Marmugao, New Mangalore, Cochin, Chennai, Ennore, V O Chidambarnar, Visakhapatnam, Paradip and Kolkata (including Haldia) which handle approximately 61 per cent of the country's total cargo traffic.
