The contractual workers unions of Cachar Paper Mill in south Assam's Barak Valley staged a day-long protest, alleging non-payment of salaries for the past 20 months.
Members of several contractual workers unions staged the protest yesterday in front of the mill, demanding immediate payment of pending dues.
Cachar Paper Mill Project Workers Union president Manabendra Chakraborty told reporters today that an indefinite hunger"strike was to be staged by the contractual workers on April 23, but it was deferred after the mill's management assured three months' outstanding salaries within this month.
The management, however, paid only one month's salary to the workers and said that the remaining two months' salaries would be paid before April 30, Chakraborty said.
