A cache of arms has been recovered from Meghalaya's East Garo Hills district, police said today.
The recoveries were made in the last few days in different locations such as Rongbokgre and Dorengkigre in the district, the police said.
"We recovered one 7.62 machine gun, one 7.62 SLR assault rifle, one double-barrel gun, eight wireless sets, thirteen batteries, five improvised explosive devices (IEDs) in plastic containers, six batteries for IEDs and five circuits for IEDs," said superintendent of police, Ringrang TG Momin.
The 7.62 machine gun used by Sohan D Shira, the commander in chief of the Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA), who was killed in an encounter recently, was also recovered, he said.
Regular search operations by the East Garo Hills (EGH) police to locate the Garo National Liberation Army's (GNLA) hidden stash in many parts of the district led to the recovery, a police officer said.
