"We had given a call to all lawyers for not attending court proceedings seeking immediate repair of a part of the court building, which is in a dangerous state," Calcutta High Court Bar Association general secretary Suranjan Dasgupta said.
With several lawyers staying away, court proceedings were affected and many hapless litigants had to return without their cases being heard.
While judges were present in courts and cases were heard in some court rooms, including that of acting Chief Justice Nishita Mhatre, work in several other court rooms were affected owing to the protest by advocates.
