United Kingdom's Prime Minister David Cameron has pledged to "sweep away" tax secrecy in Britain as he meets with leaders to urge more action against tax evasion and avoidance.
Cameron has made cracking down on tax evasion and avoidance a cornerstone of the agenda for next week's G-8 summit in Northern Ireland, and is meeting today with representatives from Britain's network of overseas territories and dependencies to urge more action on the issue.
Ahead of the talks, Cameron told the Guardian newspaper he is determined to eradicate "secretive companies in secretive locations."
He said that in order to set an example to fellow G-8 leaders, he will introduce a new central register in Britain requiring the owners of "shadowy shell" companies be declared to tax authorities.
