The District Magistrate of Patna, Sanjay Kumar Aggarwal has launched a campaign to help thirsty birds this summer.
He placed an earthen pot filled with water in an open space at his official residence and at the collectorate so that thirsty birds could have access to water.
The DM started the campaign yesterday to inspire Patna citizens. He had also urged the citizens to do the same.
The DM told PTI today that he had started the campaign since he was worried over depleting number of birds in the city, particularly during the summer months.
He also said that he had done this to make an effort to maintain the ecosystem.
Earlier, large number of birds used to be seen, particularly on the roofs of tall government buildings. But the sightings have gone down nowadays, Aggarwal said.

Aggarwal also said that he would ask all government offices to place some water in open places of the buildings to help thirsty birds.
Students in schools would be sensitised about the campaign and pamphlets would be distributed as well, the DM said.
Hoardings would be put at different spots across the city to inspire people to be part of the campaign, he added.
