"We have prepared plans for campus construction in Phase I at a cost of Rs 406 crore and super speciality hospital construction in phase-II at Rs 336 crore. The institution will be a world class one in medical education in 78 acres of land," JIPMER Director Dr S C Parija said here today.
Addressing a review meeting here in the presence of Education Minister R Kamalakannan and District Collector P Parthiban, he said 49 students had already been selected for MBBS course at the campus for the 2016-17 academic year. They are now attending classes at JIPMER, Puducherry campus.
The Director said that until the new institution gets its permanent campus, students studying in this college would make use of the 506-bedded Karaikal General Hospital.
The GH will be given a facelift at a cost of Rs 30 core with additional equipment and facilities.

Parija said JIPMER planned to add nursing and paramedical colleges at the Karaikal campus and would require additional land for that purpose.
Kamalakannan said Government would soon allot eight acres additional land for the nursing and paramedical colleges.
