"I don't think one can recreate the magic of old films. In recent times we have seen remakes of old films have hardly met with success. The newer version may fail to overtake the older one," Rahul told PTI.

Mahesh Bhatt had directed the 1990 hit romantic film that featured then-newcomers Rahul and Anu Agarwal.

"What is going to happen with 'Aashiqui 2' no one knows, will it be able to create same magic or not only time will tell. It will have to stand on its own merit," he said.

However, the actor is all praises for the Bhatt camp, especially for churning out good music with every film.

"When 'Aashiqui' was released nobody knew that it will be such a good film... It is a cult film. I am grateful to them for giving me this film," Roy said.

"I have done six films with the Bhatt camp and I know that they are good at marketing, packaging the film and they are very good with music, a track record that they have proven since 25 years," he said.

Produced by Bhatt, 'Aashiqui 2' is helmed by Mohit Suri and stars Shraddha Kapoor and Aditya Roy Kapoor.

"There is a huge pressure on the makers for the kind of film 'Aashiqui' was. I am sure lot of people will go and watch the movie to find out what it is like and they might even try to compare it with the first one," Rahul said.

"The good part about 'Aashiqui 2' is even before the shooting of film begins, it has garnered lot of attention. If it has a good story and music, it will do well," he said.

Roy also feels the film would be a good platform for its lead actors Aditya and Shraddha.

"They have taken relatively new actors and that is the good part. And I am sure 'Aashiqui 2' will give them a fantastic platform," Rahul said.
