As a symbol of friendship, Canada's visiting Governor General David Johnston today unveiled a Canadian stone sculpture -- Inukusk -- on Shanti Path at posh Chanakyapuri area here.
The indigenous Canadian sculpture, mirroring Canadian spirit of friendship, was gifted by the people of Canada to the people of India.
Delhi's Lt Governor Najeeb Jung, Canadian High Commissiner Stewart Back and a number of dignitaries were present on the occasion.
The inuksuk has been built using a naturally coloured purple-red Armour stone. Three stones are placed together in the 'heart' of the structure.
The design of the Inuksuk is in the form of an 'Innunguaq'-- meaning in the likeness of a human. Its open arms signal a presence between people and it marks a special location with respect.
Johnston had arrived here on Saturday on an eight-day visit to India.
