Students of Mount Carmel School took out a protest march on the busy Boring road locality to pray for the speedy recovery of the 23-year-old girl and seek stringent punishment for the perpetrators of the gang-rape.

The protesting school children also raised slogans like 'Justice delayed is justice denied' and displayed banners expressing solidarity with the gang-rape victim.

Members of the civil society took out a candle light march between the Radio station and Buddha Memorial Park on the Dalbunglow road on the same issue.

Meanwhile, senior CPI(M) leader Suhasini Ali condemned the gang-rape of the medical student in a moving bus and asked the government to bring the culprits to justice in the specific case and other related cases by improving the conviction rate.

The demand for capital punishment to the accused persons in rape cases was not a practical solution, she said, adding that the judicial process should be strengthened to expedite trial for speedy conviction.

Ali, who heads the All India Democratic Women Association, stressed on the need to create a safe and secure atmosphere for women.
