A team of district police was camping in Lucknow for the arrest of Vice Chairman of Ganna Anusandhan Parishad K C Pandey following reports of his presence there, a police spokesman said here.
The administration, meanwhile, initiated proceedings to impose the Gangsters Act against seven members of the gang led by notorious animal smuggler M Majid, who along with Pandey, were named in the FIR lodged under Anti Corruption, Anti Cow Slaughter Act and 120B of IPC (Criminal Conspiracy) with the Kotwali nagar police last year.
Earlier this week, Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, when asked about the allegations against Pandey for having complicity with animal smugglers said sting operation against the SP leader was done during the previous Mayawati regime.
He said, to know the reality, the government would get an inquiry conducted and action will be taken accordingly.
Pandey was last month appointed vice chairman of the Parishad and enjoys the status of a minister of state.
