Cannabis worth Rs 75 lakh seized, 2 held

Fifteen kilograms of cannabis, pegged around Rs 75 lakh in international market, was today seized here and two persons arrested in this connection, the Narcotics Control Bureau said.
Accused Balbir Singh (55) and Gurdayal Singh (40) were arrested after the NCB sleuths intercepted a truck on Aslali crossroads here on the wee hour carrying the contraband.
The consignment was dispatched from Kashmir valley on a truck carrying basmati rice and was meant to be delivered to Ahmedabad and Mumbai, NCB Zonal Director Hari Om Gandhi said.
"The arrested duo are professional carriers, who indulged in the activity of transporting charas from Kashmir by hiding them in special cavities made in their truck. It was hidden so smartly that we had to break the driver's seat to find it out," he said.
On June 21, the NCB had arrested three persons for allegedly carrying 1.2 kg of heroin, estimated to be around Rs 3.6 crore in the international market.
