A suicide bomber blew himself up as thousands of fans were exiting US star Ariana Grande's pop concert in Manchester last night. Fifty-nine people were injured in the attack, the deadliest in the UK since the 7/7 bombings of 2005.
In a statement, the festival expressed its "horror, anger and immense sadness" over the attack.
"This is yet another attack on culture, youth and joyfulness, on our freedom, generosity and tolerance, all things that the Festival and those who make it possible -the artists, professionals and spectators- hold dear.
According to reports, the festival has also dropped plans to celebrate its 70th anniversary with fireworks.
