Car mows down pedestrian, driver beaten to death by angry mob

A pedestrian was mowed down by a car whose driver was later beaten to death with lathis and sharp-edge weapons by an angry mob at Manali-Kiratpur National Highway, police said today.
Nikka Ram died on the spot after he was hit by a car driven by Rakesh Kumar who was returning home last night at Ner Chowk, 15 kilometres from here.
The locals chased the driver, beat him with lathis and sharp edge-weapons, and threw him on the road side. He was rushed to the Zonal hospital where he succumbed to his injuries, police said.
"Police had hard time in handling the mob but situation is under control now," SP Mandi R S Negi said, adding that the mob also blocked the highway for more than an hour.

Police have registered a case under section 302 (murder) of IPC against unidentified persons in this regard. Two persons Rakesh Kumar alias Rakoo and Anil Kumar have been arrested in connection with the matter, Negi said.
