The dead animal was first spotted by local fishermen and brought the carcass to the shore. The length of the animal is about 16 feet and width 9 feet. The animal is categorised as schedule-1 marine creature, said Range Officer Asit Mishra said.
"Initially we thought it to be the carcass of a whale. But, later we confirmed that it belongs to shark species," he said.
The reason for the death could be ascertained only after post mortem, he said.
