The terminal is jointly commissioned by the Airports Authority of India (AAI) and Mumbai-based Cargo Service Centre.
Airport Director J T Radhakrishna, who inaugurated the terminal at a function said, the operations here would be handled by CSC India Private Limited on behalf of the AAI from midnight tonight.
He said airports in two-tier cities should also have a good share in cargo operations like major airports in Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Chennai and Kolkata.

around 2,000 tonnes of cargo could be transported every month, fetching good revenue for the airport and benefiting the region, he said.
The Cargo Service Centre was an allied group and handled
a market share of 18 per cent in India, he said. There would be a major change in the airport terminal within two months. Pre-paid shops and food courts would be set up in the terminal besides the Shopper's Stop which had already been opened.
Nigam Vasani and Cargo Service Centre (CSC) Chairman Tushar Jani, attended the event.
Vasani said air cargo service would help attract new business ventures and fuel the economy of the Dakshina Kannada region.
CSC Chairman Jani said two and three-tier cities would witness major developments in the coming years with the introduction of air cargo services.
