After a complaint by the SP, the Saifabad police registered a case against Sarma under Section 365 for kidnapping with intent to wrongfully confine a person, Section 189 for threat of injury to public servant and Section 506 for criminal intimidation under the IPC, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central Zone) Tarun Joshi told PTI tonight.

The SP was held captive by Sarma for more than four hours and later freed late last night after in-charge Director General of Police (DGP) V Dinesh Reddy persuaded him to release the SP safely.

In his complaint, the SP said Sarma called him to a room in a lodge last evening to discuss a complaint he had filed with the Lok Ayukta. After entering the room, Sarma pulled down the shutters of the room and got it locked from outside. After tying him up, Sarma threatened to kill him by setting him on fire if he attempted to release himself. He also demanded revocation of his suspension, the SP said.

Earlier this morning, Sarma met the DGP and admitted it was a mistake on his part to take Narayana hostage. He had resorted to the extreme step in order to highlight "irregularities" in the PTO and to seek revocation of his suspension, he said.

He claimed the DGP assured him that he will be given fresh posting in the DGP office.

"No action was taken after my earlier repeated representations on the matter and instead I was suspended. I was angry after being without salary for the last seven months and hence took the SP hostage," Sarma told reporters after meeting Reddy at the DGP's office.
