The MLA's son Prathamesh Gite, 23, gave a complaint in this connection at Bhadrakali police station here yesterday.
"The complaint stated that some unknown people created and circulated a false message saying that as per a regional news channel report, the MLA has quit MNS and joined the BJP," Madhukar Kad, in-charge of Bhadrakali police station said here today.
The unidentified accused have been booked under the IT Act 2000, police said adding that the cyber crime investigation cell is probing the case.
"There is no question of leaving the MNS...It might have been done by the Opposition parties to malign my image and I will give them a befitting reply in the October 15 assembly elections," he said.
Recently, MNS Ghatkopar MLA Ram Kadam joined the BJP in the presence of party's national president Amit Shah, saying that he was stifled in the party despite doing a good job.
