Case of disproportionate assets against customs official

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) today registered a case of disproportionate assets against an officer of the Central Excise and Customs Department.
A case has been registered against the officer, Parmanand Singaria, under the Prevention of Corruption Act for amassing disproportionate assets to the tune Rs 24.64 lakh between November 2013 to October 2017, the agency said.
Singaria is a'preventive officer' in the Department of Central Excise and Customs, posted at the New Customs House in south Mumbai.
Searches were carried out today at Singaria's houses in the city and in Rajasthan, which led to discovery of Rs 17 lakh in cash, Rs 1 lakh held in US dollars, fixed deposits worth Rs 16 lakh and balance of about Rs 14 lakh in various bank accounts and other investments, said a CBI official.
