: 10 cases have been registered against "bogus guides" for cheating pilgrims in a nearby temple town, police said today.
They said action was taken on a series of complaints from worshippers that they were conned by touts who extracted money from them under the pretext of making arrangements for darshan of the main deity Dhandayuthapaniswamy at the temple.
Complaints poured in not only on the temple's website, but also on the official site of the police, they said.
The worshippers, mostly Keralites, claimed to have been cheated to the tune of Rs 500 to 2000, police added.
Meanwhile, Superintendent of Police (Dindigul) Saravanan has ordered that a watch be kept on unlicensed guides.
