Cash, valuable stolen from two temples in Thane district

Some unidentified persons allegedly looted cash and a valuable from two temples in the district, police said today.
In the first incident, the robbers entered the Mahalaxmi temple at Bhiwandi between last night and wee hours today and broke the cash box. They decamped with Rs 10,000, an official from the Bhiwandi Town Police Station said.
As per the complaint, when the temple was opened for cleaning about 5.30 AM, it was found that the lock of the cash box was broken and the cash missing from it. Also the hall of the temple, where the box was kept was ransacked, he added.
A case under section 379 (punishment of theft) of the IPC was registered in this regard, the official added.
In another incident a brass bell worth Rs 2,000 was stolen by some unidentified person from the Rasai Devi temple at Vishnunagar in Dombviili.
As per the complaint, on November 28, when the priest went to the temple in the evening he found the bell missing.
A case under section 380 (theft) of the IPC was registered with the Vishnu Nagar police station in this connection, said another police official.
