The documents related to caste affinity, submitted by five corporators elected to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) in the recent polls, have been found to be invalid, a senior official said.
Election to cash-rich BMC was held in February this year.
After conducting the scrutiny, documents related to caste affinity of five corporators -- Changej J Multani, Pankaj S Yadav, Tulip B Miryanda, Kesharben Patel and Sudha B Singh -- were found to be invalid, Deependra Singh Kushwah, collector of Mumbai suburban district, told PTI yesterday.
He said the corporators did not produce valid caste documents, adding, "they can now approach the court."
Notably, as many as 16 corporators of the BMC have been disqualified in the last two terms.
According to a reply to a RTI query filed with the BMC earlier this year by RTI activist Anil Galgali, in the term from 2007 to 2012, a total of 12 corporators were disqualified for similar reasons, while four were disqualified in the last term (from 2012 to 2017) for adducing wrong credentials, including submitting false caste certificates.
