The 9-year-old Bobo was brought into the store in Chinatown, New York, as a kitten by an employee as he had nowhere to live.
He was well looked after by his new friends at the store and a lawyer, who visited the store and had four cats of her own, would take Bobo to the vet and bring him food.
Bobo obtained a proper care-giver in Annie, who began working at the shop in 2014, a media report said.
"Bobo's personality is calm and friendly. He is the only cat in the store. He's the king of the store!" she was quoted as saying by 'Love Meow', a popular blog for cat lovers.

He has more experience working at the store than most employees and has never taken a day off.
Bobo's main duties include sitting on a cardboard if it is dropped on the floor. He also welcomes other felines into the store, often greeting his four-legged friends by rolling on his back.
"He does a better job than me!" Annie, who decided to set up an Instagram to document Bobo's various activities, said.
He keeps a watchful eye to make sure no one steals anything, takes selfies, checks stock and guards the store using his terrifying snarl.
